Khaosan road is the gateaway of southeast asia. Every years, thousands of travelers are heading to that 500m road to find a place to stay, to get a ticket to one of the multiple Thailand beautiful destinations, some others come there to party, have a drink or two, meet people.

The road is also popular among thai people, some students go there to interview travelers, others come to party but most of them is the road are street sellers, employees and entrepreneurs working and keeping the road alive.

It all started about 40 years ago, before that time no guesthouse, no hotel, no party at all. Khaosan translation is “milled rice” to refer to the rice market the street was at that time. Then some chinese started to rent rooms or bed to travellers, the backpackers hub of Asia was born. Nowadays the road is getting cleaner, hotel are buying guesthouses and families are joining or replacing the backpackers.

There is a lot of things to do in khaosan road. Of course you still can find an accomodation for a fair price, enjoy the thai street food, find a ticket to your next travel destination but there is a lot of interesting places to visit just nearby: 

  • Wat phra kaew (the grand palace), one of the most beautiful temple in Thailand.
  • Wat pho or wat phra chettuphon, the worldwide reference about massage, home of the biggest reclining buddha statue.
  • Democracy monument
  • Chinatown
  • The chao phraya river
  • The phra sumen fort and its park
